River Rising comprises the musical talents of husband-and-wife duo, Tim Hazen and Megan Deiger, whose voices tightly weave country and folk music over a backbone of bluesy sensibility. Lyrically, they capture heartache, waywardness, and emotional strength with a soulful quality reminiscent of a spiritual. Simple orchestration of accompaniment is welcome, allowing words, melodies, and often ethereal harmonies to take the lead on each song.
River Rising originated in Chicago but currently reside in Lansing, Michigan. While in Chicago they played at venues such as Schubas, Old Town School of Folk Music, City Winery, Subterranean, The Beat Kitchen, Bottom Lounge, and Uncommon Ground. The band performed with fellow Chicago bands as well as national touring artists.
Their time in Chicago also allowed them to become active contributors to the city’s theater and storytelling communities and they performed sets at WBEZ’s Curious City, Chicago Fringe Festival, Story Sessions, Chicago's Fillet of Solo Festival, and Here Chicago.
The band was also the main musical composers of the WBEZ podcast, PleasureTown.
River Rising is releasing their second album, Reborn, in February 2019.
